A Muslim! Run!!!
Conservatives seem to be just a little Muslim-obsessed and paranoid, as evidenced this week when Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to US congress, took office. Ellison was sworn in on the Koran, which angered the wingnuts enough, but when shouts of "Allahu Akbar" were heard, they started pissing themselves uncontrollably in fear and outrage:
"There are some huge concerns, nonetheless. On my radio program last weekend I played a clip of Ellison's acceptance speech. The crowd began shouting "Allah Akbar," meaning "God is greater," which is often spoken during acts of Islamic violence. I am not suggesting Ellison is violent and certainly not suggesting he is a jihadist; however, to hear these words in the usual defiant voice was disturbing." (Jan Markell, olivetreeviews.com)
"Allahu Akbar" is the muslim equivalent of "praise the lord", although the right seems to think it means "kill the infidels". CNN's Glenn Beck took the misconception to absurd lengths in an interview with Ellison, saying he felt like asking Ellison to prove he wasn't "working with the enemy". As usual, Jon Stewart can always be relied upon to give right-wingnuts a dressing-down for their excesses:
