The winter solstice has come and gone. Two days ago marked the shortest day of the year, with the sun rising at 8:08am and setting at 4:19pm. Yesterday's sunset was at 4:20pm. And this is important why? Because I'm one of those people who is unutterably bummed out by the shorter days of winter. The cold shitty weather and lack of sunshine is bad enough, but I find 16+ hours of darkness every day crushingly oppressive. So when the sun starts setting later -- even one minute later -- I celebrate. Sunset at 4:20pm -- vernal equinox, here we come.
