"Christians" weigh in at Pandagon
Part of the reason I have such issues with the religious right is that when they're not serving up creepy comedy gold like "purity balls", they're puking out this kind of pig excrement:
"YOU RACIST WHORE. FAT UGLY BITCH. SUCK MY LONG COCK ASSHOLE I HOPE YOU KIDS NEVER LIVE AND YOUR PARENTS DIE A TRAGIC DEATH YOU ASSHOLE BITCH! I HOPE YOUR WOMB IS BARREN AND YOUR CAREER PLUMMETS TO HELL YOU BITCH"
That's just one of the hundreds of abusive emails Amanda Marcotte and Melissa McEwan have received from the good holy self-righteous christian flying monkeys that were unleashed on them last week by Bill Donohue and the catholic league. I'm sure jesus would approve.
Apart from all the shit Marcotte and McEwan have had unloaded on them, another unfortunate result of the situation is that it's bound to impact bloggers who have aspirations of working in politics. A blog can and will be used against the writer, and that has really negative implications for freedom of speech. It's a vicious circle: bloggers who have political job aspirations may be hesitant to speak out as much, which will make them worse bloggers, which in turn will make them less likely to be considered for jobs. What's needed is for those who do the hiring to stand up and tell the bullies to shove it, which they don't seem prepared to do just yet.
