"The Surge is working"

That's what they keep saying. Working how? Like this?

"On Monday, a suicide bomber blew up an ambulance at a police station near Ramadi, killing 14 people including women and children, a local hospital official said.

On Sunday, more than 40 people — mostly college students — were killed in a bombing outside a mostly Shiite college in Baghdad.

In other violence Tuesday, a roadside bomb blast killed three American soldiers on the outskirts of Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

Car bombs and other blasts in Baghdad killed nine people and wounded 25 despite a new U.S.-backed security offensive in the capital, police said.

In the northern city of Mosul, a suicide truck bomber killed six policemen and wounded 25 other people outside a police station. Witnesses said the blast destroyed the station."

There was a week or so of quiet after the "surge" began, but it was short-lived. The violence has started again and yesterday even the Iraqi Vice-President, who probably enjoys the best security environment possible in that hellhole, almost had his arse blown off. The initial quiet that was being taken as proof that "The Surge Is Working" was nothing more than the insurgents laying low and taking a breather while they scoped out the situation. Now it's business as usual in the midst of a civil war that no "surge" short of 200,000 troops could pacify. When will Bush and Cheney admit they fucked up and bring these kids home? Sending another 20,000 troops into that shithole just for the sake of their own vanity is dereliction of duty, another impeachable offense.
