John and Elizabeth Edwards just held a press conference, explaining that Elizabeth's breast cancer had spread to the bone. Damn it. But the good news is it's very treatable and her attitude is positive. I have no doubt that she'll be able to manage it like a chronic condition and and live with it for many years. My friend's aunt had breast cancer that metastasized to her spine 15 years ago, and she's still alive and well today. So it can be done.
Because the treatment won't be too debilitating, John Edwards will carry on with his presidential campaign. Watching them, I got the feeling that this decision was Elizabeth's -- she's a fighter. Kick ass, Liz.
