Okay, godless heathens (and like-minded non-heathens): time to get your secular-humanism on. The North America-wide "Blog Against Theocracy" blogswarm is this coming weekend, Friday to Sunday April 6-8.
As explained here, the idea is to post something that highlights the importance of keeping a nice big fat juicy wall between church and state. There are a number of issues that are (or could be) negatively impacted by religion-driven policy, so just blog about something that's important to you. Quality of education, women's rights, gay rights, denial of sound sciences and embryonic stem-cell research are just a few possible topics, but it's your call. (More ideas can be found at the first freedom first website.)
Write your post(s), tag it "blog against theocracy", send the post URL to blue gal at bluegalsblog AT gmail DOT com, and she'll post a link to it on the Blog Against Theocracy blog that she's set up just for the links.
Finally, I want to add that this is not religion-bashing. Religion has its place in society and, when used as directed, can certainly be a force for good. Everyone has a right to worship (or not) as they see fit. This is about the interference of religion in government, sciences, medicine and other places it shouldn't be, and the imposition of the religious values of a few on the many.
So, that's it! This Friday at 12:01am, start clogging those internet tubes with the message that we want Democracy, not Theocracy.
