Cliff at Rusty Idols observes that The New Scientist compares climate change deniers to "pro-slave traders":
My sage advice (ha) would be that any thinking person should steer clear of such absurd analogies... as evidenced by the success of the anti-abortion movement, it's not helpful.
"From The New Scientist, a researcher compares the arguments against taking action on climate change with arguments made in the 1800's against abolishing slavery. This hyperbole may prompt howls of outrage, but not because the analogy itself is so ridiculous -- the climate change deniers are, for the most part, the same nitwits who've been using the ridiculous "slave trade" analogy about abortion.
Marc Davidson of the philosophy department at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands has decided to compare the rhetoric used by US climate "deniers" to that of early 19th century congressional debates on the abolition of slavery."
My sage advice (ha) would be that any thinking person should steer clear of such absurd analogies... as evidenced by the success of the anti-abortion movement, it's not helpful.
