The nefarious Bill C-484 is clearly getting a reputation as the truth about it spreads like wildfire. If truth wins out, this authoritarian attempt to chisel away at womens' bodily autonomy will gasp out a last ragged breath and expire with a loud *clunk* on the house floor next Monday (March 5th) when it comes up for a vote. And its' death will be well-deserved: never has a proposed law done so little of what it claims to do, and so much of what it claims not to. It affords no protection or deterrent, it imposes no harsher punishment (and quite possibly even lesser punishment) -- and yet the lying bastards pushing this thing continue to insist that it's not about the only thing it could possibly be about -- giving a fetus rights as a "person" equal to a living, breathing, out-of-utero human being. Making abortion a crime.
Last night a cable station ran a debate with the bill's sponsor, MP Ken Epp, who inadvertently admitted the bill's real agenda. We Move to Canada caught it and blogged it. Under questioning about the necessity of a bill that doesn't accomplish any of the things it's supposed to, Epp said words to the effect of:
"Because we want to recognize the humanity of that unborn child. Whether that child was killed three months before birth or three months after birth, it was still a child, there was still a loss of life. The other side might wish to deny the humanity of that unborn child, but we want the law to recognize it."So there you go, an admission straight from the horse's ass. Read the whole thing. Then E-mail Dion and tell him to whip the Liberals to vote against this piece of shit. Enough is enough.
