Certainly animals deserve protection from cruelty. But if someone hurts my dog and, after I kick their ass all over the neighbourhood, I decide to lay charges, in whose name are the charges laid? Mine or my dog's? And that's exactly why Bill C-484, which would make a fetus a "victim of crime", makes no sense. Legally, the fetus, like the dog, can't be a victim in and of itself, only its owner/mother can.
