Controversy is apparently no reason that someone might be denied an Order of Canada. As commenter Reality Bites points out, Dr. Morgentaler wouldn't be the first controversial figure to be so awarded. One of last year's recipients was Rev. Brent Hawkes, a pioneering equal marriage activist. The usual suspects were shrieeeking about that, too, and nobody listened to their spittle-flecked jabbering then, either.BOOM!
