More on Mark Foley and the good upstanding GOP

You can't make this shit up.

Apparently, congressman Mark Foley's habit of exchanging sexually-explicit emails with underage kids didn't go unnoticed before it all blew up in his face yesterday. One of the kids at the center of the storm worked for republican congressman Rodney Alexander. When Alexander found out about the emails almost a year ago, he was concerned enough to notify the kid's parents. He also notified the House leadership that "there might be a potential problem".

And yet, there was Foley a year later, still in office, still chairman of the Exploited Children's Caucus. The republicans knew all about this guy, but allowed him to go on hassling kids because his district is a republican "safe seat", and taking him out might mean losing that seat. Well well. What Foley was doing was bad enough, but how despicably hypocrital does a party have to be to campaign on ownership of "moral values" while allowing one of its members to continue sexually harrassing kids -- just to keep his seat?

I don't give a flying fuck what adult people do in their private lives, and nobody should since it's nobody's business. But those who present themselves as the Arbiters of All That's Godly, Good and Clean, Upholders and Imposers of "Moral Values", Christian Soldiers fighting against the Filth That Infects Our Dissolute Liberal Society should clean up the feculence in their own back yards first.
