What's the big deal about the Little Black Book For Grrlz?

The fundies have got their knickers in a knot yet again over a publication called "The Little Black Book For Grrlz". It's a book for teens, written by teens, about different aspects of sexuality. It has basic relevant information for girls, how-to's and how-not-to's, along with stories about relationships, some gay. It sounds like a good adjunct to school sex education -- this is the stuff kids talk about after the class. The best part of it is that it encourages dialogue and promotes positive self-esteem for kids who may be confused and upset with the way they feel. And for all kids, a little diversity education is a good thing. In addition to the benefit of lessening bigotry, it might even save a life or two.

But the fundies are outraged. When the fuck aren't they? Well, always -- but after seeing the contents of the Little Black Book, their outrage-o-meters redlined. (Homos and lesbos and queers, oh my!) The Forces of Righteousness immediately grabbed their pitchforks and flaming torches and headed down to Walmart, which subsequently caved, stopped selling the book in the US and won't be selling it in Canada.

Didn't the Taliban do this kind of shit? What next? They may not go after kite-flyers YET, but you can bet there are a few more books out there that they'd like to get off the shelves. Are we going to allow these people to become a self-appointed Ministry of Virtue? This bullshit has to stop.
