Harper boosts troop morale

Stephen Harper's supposed to be a pretty smart guy, right? So why, when talking to reporters about the bloody spring offensive planned by the taliban in afghanistan, would he say something as cataclysmically stupid as this:

“Our soldiers, men and women who go over there, know full well when they go over there that not all of them will return.”

He's basically saying that for some of our soldiers, afghanistan is a suicide mission. And that's the way the cookie crumbles. I wonder how the soldiers and their families felt hearing this, that the man responsible for sending them on the mission has every expectation that in doing so he may be sending them to their deaths. But hey, that's life. Bring 'em on.

There should really be a law that the people responsible for putting troops in harm's way have to be right there with them, leading the charge. It wouldn't be as easy for that fat little fuck to say "We know full well when we go over there that not all of us will return".
