What the -- !?? There's an excited discussion at FD this morning, precipitated by a CBS poll that indicates McCain and Obama are tied:
SHRIEEEK! McCain closed the gap!!?? The excitement spiraled into arguments about the comparative merits of polls, Kerry/Bush polls from 2004, McCain's stellar performance in this week's debate, and the JoeThePlumber Effect. Hope... Yes! we! can! Except...
Oh, I know! They're getting so boring. But what the hell; one more for the road. This one's just at the rumour and innuendo stage, but if it's true, it's -- well, to me? A gift. To the GOP? HAHAHAHAHA! Republican big cheese Senator Trent Lott recently announced that he's resigning in a kind of out-of-the-blue way. Lott's known more for racism, but homophobia also looms large in his voting record, which is the usual fucked-up mess of good Christian family values anti-gay bullshit. Now it's being *rumoured* that there may be more behind Lott's resignation than a desire to spend more time on the fairway -- it might be a pre-emptive strike against a scandal that's about to blow. Dan Savage ruminates on the possibility:
"The Internets are abuzz with the news that Trent Lott may have suddenly resigned from the Senate today because he was involved with Benjamin Nicholas, a gay escort and an occasional Stranger contributor. Nicholas wrote a terrific piece for us last year chastising Mike Jones for outing evangelical cocksucker Ted Haggard..."
Heh. It's just a rumour, but if it's true, it's... GOP business as usual!
