!Emergencia!

Great snappin', I missed this important news item.

The agave crops in Mexico have failed this season. And that means a tequila shortage:

"Agave is the Mexican plant tequila is made from. The crop failure means there's a worldwide shortage of the drink and, therefore, higher prices.

As a result, local fiestas might be a bit tamer than usual since the margueritas probably won't flow quite as freely as in past years.

The price of a bottle of tequila has gone up 50% to 60% at the retail level."

The agave cactus takes 8-12 years to reach full production, so it may be awhile before things are back to normal. Oh no, amigos... this means tequila lovers might have to resort to... !Mezcal!, a tequila-like libation made from the maguey cactus rather than the agave. Although tequila is considered a more refined(!!!) class of mezcal, the real !Mezcal!, the one with the worm at the bottom of the bottle, is cheaper, cruder, harsher (bet you didn't know that was even possible) and more likely to produce hallucinations as well as stupefying, brain-melting intoxication. An ugly few years coming up...
