Mission Accomplished

Good work, Georgie:

"A new poll suggests that President Bush is the most unpopular president in modern American history.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Thursday indicates that 71 percent of the American public disapprove of how Bush is handling his job as president.

"No president has ever had a higher disapproval rating in any CNN or Gallup Poll; in fact, this is the first time that any president's disapproval rating has cracked the 70 percent mark," said Keating Holland, CNN's polling director." (emphasis mine)

You have to admit, that is quite an accomplishment. And five years to the day after this magic moment:

Mission accomplished indeed. That is, if the "mission" was to fuck things up so royally that the world will be years in recovering.

Mission Accomplished

May 1st is the 4th anniversary of the day George W. Bush stood in front of US troops and the world and declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, and the US had prevailed: Mission Accomplished. 3,300+ flag-draped caskets and countless Iraqi casualties later, combat and carnage are still ongoing, and by now there are few who won't admit that Georgie's photo-op pronouncement was just one of many lies this reckless and criminal administration has told.

Lies. The litany of lies that preceded the famous USS Lincoln photo-op is only exceeded by the lies that have followed since.

"Saddam has weapons of mass destruction."
"Saddam is an imminent threat."
"There were ties between Iraq and 9/11."
"We're making progress."
"Violence in Baghdad is down... the surge is working."

And so on. What's as amazing as their lies about the war are the lies that amounted to systematic character assassination of anyone who dared to question them and the Orwellian suppression of information. I don't think I could even stand to catalogue all the nefarious falsehoods perpetrated by the Bush administration, but fortunately others with stronger stomachs have done the heavy lifting.
