As I posted yesterday, in response to ongoing harassment from the Catholic League's head halfwit Bill Donohue, Miller Brewing offered to do a "complete audit" on their marketing procedure. Supposedly the audit would ensure that no "inappropriate" events are sponsored in the future. So hurray for Bill, once again the authoritarian thug got his way. He must be happy... uhhh not so fast. Today he says:
“We have been informed by Miller Brewing that it is not prepared at this time to offer assurances that it will never again sponsor an anti-Christian event; it merely says that it is conducting an audit of its marketing policies. Accordingly, our response to Miller’s balk is as follows.“Today, we are mailing pictures of the anti-Christian and sadomasochistic Folsom Street Fair that Miller so proudly sponsors to Milwaukee Archbishop Timothy Dolan and to the 211 Catholic parishes in the archdiocese. We want all Catholics in Milwaukee to know exactly what Miller stands for.
The pictures referred to are the ones they gleaned from past Folsom Fairs, the ones that they still have posted here with an "Extremely graphic content below" heading. Whether you or I think these pictures are obscene isn't the issue; the Catholic League clearly does. Okay, so let me get this straight: the Catholic League intends to use the US Postal Service to distribute (what they consider to be) obscene material? If the material was truly obscene, that would be breaking the law.
But never mind that. Because Miller can't or won't issue an iron-clad guarantee that they won't sponsor any "anti-Christian" events in the future, the War On Miller goes on. I can't say that I blame them, given the arbitrariness of the term "anti-Christian". Donohue thought Chocolate Jebus was "anti-Christian"... there's no telling what this howling madman might decide fits the "anti-Christian" bill. (Like them scare quotes, eh?)
As for me, I think the donation just wasn't big enough.
