Miller Beer behaving badly again!

Oh dear, tut-tut, tsk-tsk, gasp, swoon etc. That evil rainbow-coloured bottle cap can only mean one thing: Miller's at it again, celebrating diversity... the bastards! Boycott! SHRIEEEEEEEK!:
"When LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) last week contacted Mike Setto, the Michigan party store owner who helped spark a nationwide protest of Miller (now MillerCoors) beer in October 2007, following their sponsorship of the Folsom Street Fair, he was stunned to hear that MillerCoors had purchased a centerfold advertisement in this year's program.

Last year Miller apologized for their association with the "disrespectful" activities the fair is known for. Those who spearheaded the boycott that provoked the apology had been led to believe that the issue was satisfactorily put to rest and that Miller would no longer associate itself with the sadomasochistic sex fair.

When asked whether he would resume the boycott, Setto said, "Hold me on this: I will take everything out of my store with Miller, because I will not hesitate to do that again. I will not, because I am so upset at this moment, it ruined my whole day. I just can't believe it.""

Mikey doesn't like it -- it ruined his whole day. Break out the violins! Weirdly, Mikey is about 2000 miles away from the hissing crater of burning evil where the Folsom Street Fair rocks and rolls in Frisco. You'd think it was happening across the street, not across the country. Oh, boo hoo hoo!

Last year, in response to the Catholic League's boycott, Miller dropped out as a sponsor of the fair -- and the Catholic League was satisfied with that. As long as Miller wasn't sponsoring the event, they wouldn't be boycotted, promised the CL's bilious bloviator Bill Donohue. But (surprise surprise) they lied. This year, although Miller isn't sponsoring the event as per the Catholic League's ridiculous demands, the goalposts have shifted and now Miller can't even buy an ad in the event's program.

That's the problem with caving in to imbeciles like Mikey and his idiotic fellow travellers in the Catholic League... they never stop. Give 'em an inch... (finish that sentence however you like).

War On Miller continues

As I posted yesterday, in response to ongoing harassment from the Catholic League's head halfwit Bill Donohue, Miller Brewing offered to do a "complete audit" on their marketing procedure. Supposedly the audit would ensure that no "inappropriate" events are sponsored in the future. So hurray for Bill, once again the authoritarian thug got his way. He must be happy... uhhh not so fast. Today he says:
“We have been informed by Miller Brewing that it is not prepared at this time to offer assurances that it will never again sponsor an anti-Christian event; it merely says that it is conducting an audit of its marketing policies. Accordingly, our response to Miller’s balk is as follows.

“Today, we are mailing pictures of the anti-Christian and sadomasochistic Folsom Street Fair that Miller so proudly sponsors to Milwaukee Archbishop Timothy Dolan and to the 211 Catholic parishes in the archdiocese. We want all Catholics in Milwaukee to know exactly what Miller stands for.

The pictures referred to are the ones they gleaned from past Folsom Fairs, the ones that they still have posted here with an "Extremely graphic content below" heading. Whether you or I think these pictures are obscene isn't the issue; the Catholic League clearly does. Okay, so let me get this straight: the Catholic League intends to use the US Postal Service to distribute (what they consider to be) obscene material? If the material was truly obscene, that would be breaking the law.

But never mind that. Because Miller can't or won't issue an iron-clad guarantee that they won't sponsor any "anti-Christian" events in the future, the War On Miller goes on. I can't say that I blame them, given the arbitrariness of the term "anti-Christian". Donohue thought Chocolate Jebus was "anti-Christian"... there's no telling what this howling madman might decide fits the "anti-Christian" bill. (Like them scare quotes, eh?)

As for me, I think the donation just wasn't big enough.

War on Miller update

The war that the Catholic League's chief bloviator Bill Donohue declared on Miller Brewing over its sponsorship of the Folsom Street Fair rages on. The CL announced a boycott of Miller products and worse, to be an ongoing nuisance to the company. Miller caved, announcing that they would conduct an immediate audit of their marketing procedures. Eyeballs bulging, spittle flying and jowls jiggling, BD raged:
"Today's San Francisco Chronicle reports that at yesterday's Folsom Street Fair, "couples led each other up and down the street with dog collars and leashes, men in thong underwear played Twister". There was also a man who was flogged to such an extent that "red lash marks covered his back." (Hello Opus Dei.)

"Other gay men decided to "walk around naked" in front of women and children." (Yeahyeah, we already heard all about those little shenanigans, from a Reliable Source right up here in the Great White North! Remember?)

"The lead sponsor for the incredible spectacle is the Miller Brewing Company." [...]

"Today, it extended its original statement by apologizing for the misuse of its logo, "particularly [to] members of the Christian community who have contacted us to express their concern." It also said, "We are conducting an immediate audit of our procedures for approving local marketing and sales sponsorships to ensure that this does not happen again."

"An immediate audit" -- the funny thing is I couldn't find any news about this immediate audit in the Chronicle -- or anywhere other than religious sites that are just regurgitating Donohue's blather verbatim. "An immediate audit" -- translation: "a big donation to Our Lady of Perpetual Outrage Catholic School, to be spent on abstinence education".
