It's because they lie, Dr. Dawg...
...all the time, day-in-and-day-out, constantly, unceasingly, unstoppably, inexorably, lies without end, amen. "Pro-life" is synonymous with "lying", or might as well be.One of the reasons I love Dr. Dawg is that he gives everyone a chance. At Dawg's Blawg, even the most drooling, slackjawed, spittle-flecked right-wing cretins at least get a chance to make their idiotic cases, and he'll respond to them as if they had something worthwhile to say. (I should point out, though, that I love the CC consortium for the opposite reason -- the swiftly unerring way they target and nuke the stupid and self-righteous is a thing of beauty.)
But back to the Good Doc. He was engaged in the comments of his post about Dr. Morgentaler's Order of Canada by Deborah Gyapong, one of the gasping, crotch-sniffing pearl-clutchers we affectionately refer to as "fetus fetishists". The same comment was also published as a post at her blog. Dawg responds.
Someone as honest as Dr. Dawg may wonder why engaging anti-choicers is such a byzantine process of posts and counter-posts, comments that appear as posted, comments that disappear down the memory hole, comments that don't appear at all, and accusations of him having done the same. Well, it's simple -- because they lie. All the time. Constantly. And the propagation of those lies takes priority over any actual discussion. They are first and foremost propagandists, and even debunking their lies won't stop them... they just carry as if nothing's happened. Not that I'm comparing them to Nazis, but Joseph Goebbels would certainly be proud of this kind of tenacity.
Know that, Dr. Dawg, and you know what kind of playing field you're on when you engage these people. And why CC is right.

Oh, the shame...
...the disgrace, the ignominy, the sullying of the Order of Canada's good name! It didn't take long for the pearl-clutchers to demand that other inductees return their Order of Canada citations in protest of Dr. Henry Morgentaler's induction on Canada Day. First up we have Catholic priest and OofC inductee "A Catholic priest in British Columbia is returning his Order of Canada after Dr. Henry Morgentaler was named a member, calling the controversial abortion doctor's induction into the Order "a terrible mistake."Father Lucien Larre, who was inducted into the nation's highest order in 1983 for his work with troubled youth, said in a news release yesterday that he felt "compelled in conscience to return my Order of Canada.""
Oh, yeah? And who is Dr. Fr. Lucien Larre? Well, here's one of his court dockets (and a more simplified version). He's a fairly well-known guy back in Saskatchewan:
"Larre himself is not immune to controversy.
He founded the Big Valley Jamboree in Craven, with all proceeds going toward his Bosco Homes.
In 1992, a Saskatchewan jury convicted him on two counts of physically abusing children in his care at Bosco Homes and acquitted him on nine other charges. Larre was sentenced to one day in jail and paid a $2,500 fine for one charge of common assault and one charge that he forced pills down the throat of a teenager to teach her a lesson about drug abuse."
Oh yeah! Are all these people depraved freaks? That's pretty good PR, having someone who beats children return his Order of Canada in protest. (Of course, had those children stayed in the womb, they might have been treated with a lot more respect.)

When they're not lying, they're distorting
Whoopee, it's time for a Friday night zygote hoedown at Jill Stanek's Fetus Farm! No sweet'n sour fetus on the menu tonight, though -- just a glowing example of the dishonesty and distortion that's so typical of fetus fetishist culture. The setup: In the US earlier this week, the Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act became law:
"President Bush yesterday signed legislation into law that will bar health insurance companies or employers from denying or canceling coverage, hiking premiums or making decisions on hiring, firing and compensation based on genetic test results."Basically the law prevents discrimination (by employers or health insurance companies) on the basis of information gleaned from genetic testing. The law includes kids and unborn fetuses, as well it should since an employer might refuse medical coverage if a pregnant employee gets an amniocentesis and the fetus is found to be predisposed to some kind of condition. Anyway, the law sailed through Congress with virtually no opposition, voted in 420 - 3 in the House and unanimously in the Senate.
Stanek posts about it, and frames it as some kind of major "pro-life" sneak attack and victory:
"To avoid a counterattack, pro-life groups were asked to go mum on the Genetic Information Non-discrimination Act until the President signed it into law, which he did yesterday."Ooh, "counterattack"... uh, what "counterattack"? As one commenter said:

What counterattack? I'll tell you what counterattack -- there is none, and you know why, don't you? Because it's bullshit, pure, unadulterated, concentrated, high-octane, turbo-charged bullshit. The story is a non-story, but! it mentions "Teh Unborn", so that makes it potential grist for the fetus fetishizing propaganda mill. Positioned the right way, a routine story about the routine passage of a routine bill becomes A Pro-Life Victory! Something they can point to and say "Yay, we won!"
It's amazing how eagerly and unquestioningly the anti-choicers ate it up. Of course some of Stanek's more astute (pro-choice) commenters immediately took baseball bats to the "story", laid a beating on it and gave it a couple of kicks in the head as they walked away... but that didn't stop the cheering section. We won! We won!
And I'm lovin' every minute of it!! Because if this is the best they can come up with for "pro-life victories", we are in very good shape indeed. Not that complacency is ever an option, but it's heartening to see them so desperate.

Not funny.
"I met moderator Bethany a little over 1 year ago via email when she sent me photos of her recently miscarried 6-week-old baby, who Bethany named Blessing.I posted Blessing's photos, and to this day Bethany receives emails and comments from mothers wanting to share with Bethany the pain of the loss of their baby.
But the dark side of the world is inhabited by twisted, hurtful people. Over the weekend, Bethany received 2 emails from "Barbra Walters" with photoshopped pictures of Blessing. Bethany gave me permission to post."
jumbo prawn than anything human), posted said pictures online, and then was shocked, shocked, I tell you when someone used them for a little photoshop fun?I'll concede it might have been in sort of bad *taste* (so to speak) to send the photoshopped pics to the ex-mother-to-be. (You'll notice I didn't reproduce any of them here -- no matter how whacked out someone might be, I do respect their right to privacy, even if they don't respect it themselves.)
But it's a tough old world out there -- you want to advocate the curtailment of womens' rights? You get what's coming to you. Resisting *by any means necessary* includes bombardments of warped humour.
(h/t BBW, who, predictably, is shocked I tell you, shocked!)

Anti-choice demonstration aborted
It's Spring, when a young fetus fetishist's fancy turns to thoughts of... stuffing their nose in some perfect stranger's crotch! And it's time to start pounding the pavement with those glorious, gorious posters of dead fetuses. This year, fetus fetishists at the U of T got their grannie-panties in a painful twist at the administration's insistence that their display, the "Genocide Awareness Project", be set up in such a way as to accomodate those who didn't care to have gratuitous gore shoved in their faces. "Frack-diddly-ack that", said the fetus fetishists, storming away to set up shop on a nearby sidewalk... where their little fetus-fest was aborted by a rally of pro-choicers who vastly outnumbered them:
"This year’s demonstration was held last Thursday, April 3, at the corner of St. George and Harbord. The pro-lifers stood on all four corners, holding graphic posters equating abortion with slavery and the Holocaust. They were outnumbered about three to one by a coalition of pro-choice campus groups, including UTSU, ASSU, the Centre for Women and Trans People, the GSU, CUPE 3902, CFS-Ontario and the Steelworkers. " [...]"Genocide Awareness Project": how interesting. Totally fucking disrespectful, but interesting. The posters they use in this thing compare abortion to the Holocaust and slavery -- for a group that has the word "awareness" in its name, it's amazing how little they have of what an insult this is to Holocaust victims and anyone who has slavery in their ancestry. But as if that's not enough to prove these people are complete flakes with nary a clue, the delusional bullshit flew fast and furious when fetus fetishist Rosemary Connell had her say:
"Connell claimed repeatedly that women who choose abortion are psychologically damaged by the experience. With adoption, she argued, “There isn’t that terrible, terrible regret, for the rest of her life.”She also covered issues from capital punishment to the Terri Schiavo case.
“Terri Schiavo could smile, could communicate, the media didn’t want you to know that because we live in a very anti-life society,” she said."
Oh, Christ. Anti-life? Only when you guys are around, Rosie.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Remember the dumpster-diving, movie-making fetus fetishist that I posted about on the weekend? You know, the one who went through an abortion provider's dumpster in search of who-knows-what, said she found some fetuses, took a video, then took the fetus carcasses home with her(?!!) and refused to cough them up to the investigating cops? Yeah, that fetus fetishist. Well, the Department of Environmental Quality finally had to show up at her place to get the evidence that the dumpster-diving Dr. Monica refused to turn over, and they've billed her $1,100 for Removal of Evidence (the following from Operation Rescue, to whom I decline to link):
"Detroit, MI – The pro-life activist who documented the illegal dumping of aborted babies and private patient medical records at abortion clinics operated by Alberto Hodari has been billed $1,100 by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for the removal of evidence from her property.“Hodari doesn’t get fined a single cent!” said Dr. Monica Migliorino Miller, director of Citizens For A Pro-Life Society, who videotaped the contents of bags of trash discovered outside Hodari abortion mills and presented the evidence to the DEQ so charges could be filed against the abortionist. “I kid you not! The state had the bill charged to me for the removal of the evidence from my property! Something doesn’t seem right here.”
You're damn tootin' something doesn't seem right here, and I think it's that petrified little acorn rattling around in the vast recesses of Doc Monica's cranial cavity.
